amazing results appear when you try to capture objects falling into liquids. This is not easy and you need some really amazing camera skills to achieve the perfect result. Also you will need right equipment and a whole lot of patience. The aim of splash photography mostly is to freeze the subject at split second it touches the surface of your liquid. This gives some spectacular close-ups of your splash. Keep one thing in mind that it does not matter if you are capturing the photo at first attempt or hundredth attempt, just make sure that you are having fun.

 

The basic equipment that you’ll need is a flashgun and a tripod. On-camera flash is something which destroys the depth of your picture. Depth is the most importantelement in splash photography because through it you will succeed in showing the contours of your liquid. So we are going to use an off-camera flash for this purpose.
Plus you need to set the flash duration to low so that you can avoid the motion blur thing in your photography.

 

1. Set up

Fill a wide tray with whatever liquid you have. Just try to follow this basic setup at first and after that go for whatever you want. Also keep this in mind that you might end up creating a lot of mess. So, keep kitchen paper or a towel in your hands. Now mount camera on tripod and make your composition. Stay away from the setup otherwise the liquid could splash on your lens too. Cropping is a better option rather than damaging your lens.

2. Pre-focus

This is the most important step. Pre-focus your spot where you want your object to hit your liquid. Place any object in the liquid; set your focus on it and the take it out. Also practice before shooting that you are throwing your object in the perfect spot.

3. Lighting

Make sure you are lighting the whole set up properly. Don’t brighten or darken your shot too much. Use an external flash. Use pop-up flash to trigger the off-camera flash and cover pop-up flash’s light with something. We do not want this light.
